Etsy, Organizing and Going Crazy

September 20, 2009 · 2 Comments

OK, Mr. Wonderful being sick for a month has not only stressed me out, it’s put my whole organizing mission on hold.  So tonight I can’t sleep probably has something to do with the two hour nap I took so I decided to start dreaming about organizing, I do that on occasion.

I’m going to include this post in a new linky thingy I found last week, Twice Remembered.

What about this room?  It belongs to this lucky girl.

hbstudio2hb

What about this post, lots of eye candy.

How about a Scrappin’ Shed?

I am not happy with my decision to move “My Happy Place” to a smaller room.  I love what I have done with it, it’s just not the right size.  I still haven’t found the right desk, I am leaning towards a drop leaf table from Ikea.  Remember my dresser that Mr. Wonderful painted?

I think it needs to be labeled with some vinyl, what do you think?

The First Born is really pushing for an Etsy Shop, wants to do it together.  I’m checking into it.  I just don’t want my hobby to become a job.  Anyone else feel that way?

Here is what I accomplished this weekend.

I made 10 of these, yes I hand cut 30 trees.  I must be crazy.  The card was made with all Stampin’ Up! products and can be ordered from little ole’ me.  Feel free to email me with questions paperglueetc@yahoo.com.

I love to have little notebooks in my purse, especially at Christmas.  Isn’t this cute?

Wanted: New Blogs To Read

July 29, 2009 · 1 Comment

I wanted to post new blogs on Sunday, but God put something else on my heart.  Now it’s Wednesday and I’m just getting around to it.  Tells you what kind of week I’ve had.

I found some fun blogs last week!

  • What girl doesn’t love a man who cooks- I think I loved this blog more then I normally might have because Mr. Wonderful told me twice this week he couldn’t help with dinner.  I know y’all are dying to know what made Mr. Wonderful kitchen challenged…..pancakes and grilled cheese.  Go ahead laugh I did.
  • Do you ever get tired of reading about some style?  I found lots of style right here.
  • One of these days I’m going to have a grand garden.  I’m going to can or freeze something because I have too much to eat before it spoils, that is a goal.  I don’t know when that goal will be reached so I’ll live thru other grand gardeners like this.
  • I love crafty, stylish, hard working, educated women….check out this blog you’ll find tons of goodness.
  • Who can resist a little boy who needs prayer?  Join me in prayer for this little guy.
  • Who can resist a blog that says something handmade everyday?  I can’t so I read here.
  • I love a blog that has a little bit of this and a little bit of that.  I especially love a blogger that gives a shout out to other bloggers (it’s the real life marketing director coming out in me).  I have enjoyed every post I’ve read here.
  • Who doesn’t love a woman who is honest?  The minute I saw this girl say “Staying home all day with two kids, ages three and one, is enough to up anyone’s crazy quota.”  I wanted to hang around and read.  Stop by and entertain her please.

Now I know I’m not the only who just lucks upon a good blog from time to time.  Come on share ladies, show some love to a fellow blogger by leaving a link to a blog that you recently found that inspired you, made you giggle, helped you solve world hunger………….

    Hello

    July 3, 2009 · 12 Comments

***Let’s see how do I introduce my blog. I guess I’ll start with what I write about. Hang around here long enough and you’ll hear it all, but somethings you may hear over and over like my trials and tribulations of organizing.

    dscf69152

I love talking about how I took the above cabinet from it’s boring to fab.

    dscf69381

I have an addiction and I need a 12 step program. I’m addicted to paper and ink. The magic happens here. Wow I need new pictures, I’ll work on that this weekend.

    dscf6939

You may find a rant and rave about tattoos.

    DSCF8730

And then you may see me eat my words.

I often talk about infant loss, yeap I’m a member of “That Club”. You can read a little here about the day I found out that a part of my heart would forever be missing.

    Baby_James sand

I talk about my kids so much that I had to give them nicknames, they had issues with people googling their name and ready all “the stupid things I tell about them”-yeap that’s a quote I won’t tell you from which adorable child. The First Born gives me the tattoo ideas, Mr. Perfect is the reason I write about faith, I need lots of it right now with him and The Baby Girl is my entertainment-with her their is never a dull moment.

    DSCF8571-1

I often talk about Mr. Wonderful, anytime that I show some great project and take the credit for it…I lie. Mr. Wonderful does all the hard work around here. He can fix anything and enjoys it.

    Lyss and Carl NYE 2008

My all time favorite picture, it says a lot about our everyday life. The Baby Girl is always ready to party and we are old and tired.

I love to do interviews on my blog. If you are interested leave me a comment or email me paperglueetc@yahoo.com. It’s as close as I will come to being a reporter.

    A Beautiful Life

I love a good Blog Party (check out my Blog Party list and let me know if you want me to add one), I try not to miss A Beautiful Life every Friday.  I will be starting a blog carnival on 7-11 and it needs a name. Project Procrastinators Party The Before

    April 30, 2009 · 10 Comments

As if admitting that I’m procrastinator isn’t enough, I’ve picked a room in my house where up until a few days ago I only had a shower curtain liner, yeap I just admitted that my bathroom is a “hot mess”.

The Inspired Room is have A Project Procrastinators Party starting today, ending in two weeks.  Y’all know I can’t stand not to be part of a party.

I wish I was finishing The Paris Room, but The Baby Girl won’t keep it clean.  I’m sticking to my threats.

As the pictures will show I have not ONE SINGLE THING hanging on the walls.  I know shame on me.  The toothbrush holder is from The Dollar Store and ugly.  The cabinet door is peeling.  Is that vulnerable enough for all of you.  Oh yeah and this morning when I was taking the pictures, I had to be careful not to get the pile of dirty clothes the girls left in the floor over night.  The towel bar is bare.  Well here see for yourself.

    The new shower curtain!

    The new shower curtain!

Nothing on the walls, where are the towels?

Nothing on the walls, where are the towels?

U-G-L-Y! I love my polka dotted bowl, it's new!

U-G-L-Y! I love my polka dotted bowl, it's new!

Peeling door! I have a plan!

Peeling door! I have a plan!

Now if that’s not being brutally honest and putting some pressure on myself I don’t know what is.

I will take advice, suggestions, pity…..

    Dear Daisy Cottage

    April 29, 2009 · 8 Comments

I did an interview last week over at Tip Junkie and it was so much fun that when she decided to do a Mr. Linky this week I knew exactly who I wanted to interview.  I actually would like to be this person when I grow up.

She loves color!  She is not afraid to take a risk.  She decorates from her heart.  She shares great ideas and encourages other women to “embrace THEIR color”.  Pretty cool huh?  She gives away some awesome giveaways.  She accessorizes her pooch.  Sounds like someone you want to call a friend doesn’t it?

I openly admit that I read way too many blogs, it’s affected my reading of books, my housework, my exercise or lack of exercise program, my crafting time, my t.v. watching-you get the idea right?  I have three different blog rolls on my blog check here, or here, or here to see what I love to read.  Now I admit I don’t read all of those EVERY day, but there are a few that I read EVERY day.  I have a few that I check sometimes more then once a day and Dear Daisy Cottage is one of those.  Meet my friend KIM!

    My Photo

Looks like you have been blogging for a couple of years.  What has surprised you the most about your blogging experience?

I guess what surprised me the most was that anyone visited my blog at all!  What I have appreciated the most is how sweet and kind everyone is.  I love my readers and sisters and brothers in Blogland to pieces – this community is one of the many things right with our world.

I love the colors of your home, I’ve told you that before.  I started this year adding “color” to my house (see my attempts right here).  I find the process is so fun that I just know I’ll never be “done”.  Have you been decorating your home in the yellow and red color scheme for a long time?

I had always dreamed of living in a yellow house.  Our previous home was decorated more in the yellowish-golds, cranberry-reds, and mossy greens.  It was with this house that I went with the bold and primary colors.  I have always had red in my wardrobe!

I love daisies, I have a little daisy something in every room.  You obviously love daisies also, why?

Well, yes I do love daisies!  They are unpretentious and I like their sweet simplicity!

Children?  Do they live close by?

We have two children – a 25 year old son and an almost 20 year old daughter! Now how did that happen so fast? And yes I am very happy that they live close by!

Your dog is so adorable.  Is she well behaved?  She looks so relaxed and calm in her pictures.

Thank you!  And Maggie thanks you too!  ;-)   She is a very affectionate, sweet little dog who loves allpeople and of course her beloved brother, Marley.  Unfortunately, she isn’t too fond of other dogs but we are working on that – especially now that we have our fenced front yard.  We are encouraging her to bark nicely as the neighbor dogs pass by!  Maggie can be very mellow but don’t let her fool you – she IS a doxie after all and can be quite mischievous!

You have some awesome thrift store finds, how much time do you spend thrift shopping?  Any good advice for folks just starting to thrift shop?   I love what she says here about it being “your home”.

We pick up our mail at the post office, which happens to be oh so conveniently located near our Goodwill!  I try to get the mail about three times a week and usually pop into Goodwill a couple of those times.  I visit the thrift stores at random and my sis and I try to yard sale every Saturday that we can.  My best advice for new thrifters is to know what you love and train your eye to see it.  Also try to remember that furniture can be painted, cushions can be recovered, empty frames make great art, mix-matched dishes create the perfect set, and linens can be washed and used in so many ways to layer and embellish your home.  The main thing is to have fun – don’t put pressures on yourself to find the perfect thing that you may be looking for.  Sometimes it is just meant to be for you to find that cute little cup and saucer.  Try to leave your wish lists at home and just go with the flow.  Embrace the serendipity of your discoveries!

    IMG_6186

I think your pictures are great, what kind of camera do you use?  Do you have any professional training or have you taught yourself?  (Her flicker pics are right here.)

Thank you so much!  I’m flattered!  I use a Canon PowerShot G9.  I have zero professional training and have never read a manual!  I am a point and shoot girl.  I simply take the photos in the highest resolution and then crop them to size to fit my blog.  I guess I try to capture what I am seeing at the moment.

I love to know the blogs that other people read every day.  How about five blogs that you read everyday?

Oh please forgive me, because I am going to be a pain here!  I try to read as many blogs that I can that are on my Blog Candy listand that varies from day to day and there are too many ones that I always read that I can’t just say five.  I wish SO much that I could visit all of the beautiful blogs that are out there and if I could add every one of them to my Blog Candy page I would!

Thank you so much Michelle for interviewing me!  It has been an honor and great fun!

     Xo,

    Kim

    Tomorrow

    April 26, 2009 · 3 Comments

    dscf83201

This week I’m going to have lots to chat about.  I can’t wait to do a post about our tea party today.  I had as much fun as the kids.  I’ll share the menu, the little details, and lots of pictures.  I can’t wait to go back again.

I have an interview this week with Kim, from Dear Daisy Cottage.

I’m going to do a Top 10 which I think will become a weekly event.  This week I’m going to do the Top 10 “Little Things” that I love in my home.  You know the things I would want to carry out on my back if the house was on fire.

My title is from our church service today, it was awesome.  We have so much music talent that I can’t find an example of the song that was sang that is as good as it was at church today.  The song was, “God Gave Me Back My Tomorrow.”  It touched my heart, and has made me appreciate what my life is all about.  I’m glad I’m not the mixed up, selfish, mean hearted person that I use to be.  I’m a Christian saved by grace and I thank Him that my tomorrows are much better then my yesterdays.

Amber gave a great presentation (made me cry) about a project that her group is doing in Pine Ridge.  They are building a kitchen for one of the ladies at Pine Ridge, and to say she needs it is an understatement.  I want to have her a shower.

    Melda and her grandchild.

Melda's home, folks this is in America.

    From Amber’s blog….

There is no indoor plumbing at Melda’s.

When it snows, as it often does in South Dakota, the snow drifts can be as high as 20 ft high.

Melda and her family walk though the snow to the outhouse they have.
Because they have no door to their home, the snow often piles into the kitchen.
While most of us shovel snow from our driveways, they shovel it out of their home.
Because she lives on her own property, she does not qualify for any federal assistance to the tribe. She is one of those people who have “fallen between the cracks” of society.
    And yet…

    Melda never complains.

She takes each day as it comes and accepts the path she has been given in life.
    And …
She and her family are very generous.
They hold strong to the Lakota value of generosity.
They willingly share with us (strangers) what they have, be it food, company, or their culture.
Today I felt so blessed to be able to give The Baby Girl the birthday party that we had, but my head kept wondering how do I teach The Baby Girl that there is more to life then dress up and tea parties?  How do I teach her that’s it ok to enjoy things when you work hard, but you also should give back?  I’m not doing a very good job of giving back and I have to change that.  It may start with a kitchen shower for a woman who obviously deserves it!

    I’m So Thrilled

    April 21, 2009 · 3 Comments

I have an interview on Tip Junkie today!!  I once said on my blog that if Tip Junkie ever highlighted my blog I would probably pee in my pants.  Be careful what you put in print.

I love blogs, I love reading them, writing them.  I love the “community” that I have become a part of, whether I’m praying for sick little ones, encouraging Mama’s with broken hearts, learning how to decorate, wondering if this lady ever does anything for herself, stealing card ideas or just passing the time.  I love blogs.

I hope you come back and visit often, I seem to spend a lot of time talking about lots of random things.  You never know what the topic may be, tattos are a hot topic here, home improvement, the fears of a mama having a hard time letting go of a grown son can be found here more often then I care to admit, faith or sometimes the lack there of, blended family and all the joy that brings, scrapbooking and card making, current news stories (my most popular post is about Casey Anthony who would have thought?), whatever is on my mind is usually here.

The interview that I did with Rebekah touches my heart, I never considered adoption.  We have six healthy children between us, but I have so enjoyed Rebekah’s adoption story and I’m sure you will get a blessing from her.  She is an amazing woman, someone I hope my girls resemble someday.

Who would you like to interview?

    Beautiful Life

    April 17, 2009 · 1 Comment

    a-beautiful-life2

I can’t imagine not doing A Beautiful Life post on Friday, I look forward to it every week.  I love looking back each week or month to see what life has brought and how I’ve dealt with it.  I spend the weekend reading all the other post, they are awesome.

This week is about capturing the moment.  Anyone who knows me in “real life” knows I scrapbook to capture the moment.  I love to scrapbook the good and the bad, my feelings happy and sad.  One of my favorite pages is a page I did about the First Born.

    snr-raising-teens-michelle-chasteen1

This week I had so many moments and without this post I doubt I would be appreciating them, isn’t blogging wonderful?

I had a last minute glass of wine with one of my dearest friends, one friend, one hour and one glass of wine and I felt like a new person.

    dscf8234

The Baby Girl and I watched DWTS this week in the dark snuggled on the couch and she looked at me and said, “We need to do this more often.”  Melt my heart!

I didn’t feel like cooking tonight so I made a trip to Jungle Jim’s and got snacks and Pink Truck, we had a snack night for dinner.

    dscf8236

The Baby Girl spent lots of time this week on the loveseat with our laptops, Mr. Wonderful called us “Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dumb”.  He’s so funny.  (NOT)

Mr Perfect really hurt my feelings this week, nothing new.  So today when I got text messages from him that didn’t make me feel like an idiot I was tickled.

    dscf8240

    dscf8241

I am looking forward to tomorrow, The Baby Girl and I are going to The Clean House yardsale in Cincinnati.  We watch the show all the time and she is so excited.  I can’t wait to take pictures and feel relieved that my house isn’t the house that was picked for 2nd Annual Messiest House in America.

I’m so thankful for my simple, uncomplicated life.  I love being a mom and I dread the day none of these crazy kids “need” me.

I found out this week that Tip Junkie is going to post an interview that I did with one of my favorite bloggers this Thursday.  I am so excited because this lady amazes me and I can’t wait to see how other people are touched by her heart.

The Devil Made Me Do It

    April 10, 2009 · 3 Comments

    a-beautiful-life1

I’d be lying if I even tried to imagine that writing A Beautiful Life post this week isn’t tough.  I went into this week feeling so blessed and so happy to be a Christian.  I have to say the devil must have been listening; because by Wednesday I was feeling so down and defeated I was acting downright ugly.  The reasons are many, but instead of talking about “why” I want to concentrate on my actions.

While driving in the car this week talking to my most trusted, smartest, loyalest, level headed friend I decided I could stay in the funk or I could put on my big girl panties and get over it.  Guess what, the devil made me do it, that’s right.  I decided that I would not let the devil or anyone else steal my joy for another minute.  I put on the big girl panties, prayed about what was bothering me and moved on.  I don’t know if I’ve ever mentioned panties, the devil and prayer in the same paragraph.  That same friend sent me an email last night that told me, “Good job Bigger Person.”

I found out last night that Mr. Perfect was going to Florida, yeap he told me yesterday and left last night.  I have to say Mr. Perfect is getting pretty smart, he is learning how to get around me and my guilt trips.  I got a text early today that he was there safely.

    Go to fullsize image

I just texted him and asked if he was having fun, he said “Yes, but I’m throwing a football around, will text you later.”  I wonder if he’s on the beach.

We haven’t colored eggs yet.  I haven’t done Easter Baskets (I’ll only be doing two, Mr. Perfect got cash), I have no idea what I’m wearing to church on Sunday, I have no idea what I’m cooking for Easter Dinner, but that’s all ok with me.  I am just going to celebrate Easter thru my creative blog friends.

I am not going to stress that’s for sure!

I am trying to convince myself I need some craft time this weekend.
